What You'll Learn
Build-A-Machine introduces your children to concepts of motion, rack and pinion mechanics, and real-life mechanical systems. As they assemble each model and test what it does, they practise hands-on problem solving and see the same mechanisms at work in the machines around them.
Build Models
7 in 1 · 70+ parts · ages 5+
Rack & Pinion Lift
A toothed rack meshes with a round pinion gear, so turning the gear drives the rack in a straight line and lifts what it carries.
Scissor Lift
Crossed legs joined at their centres form an X, and pushing the ends together raises the platform straight up.
Cam & Follower
A shaped cam on an axle turns rotation into the follower's up-and-down movement, giving one timed push per turn.
Build-A-Machine is a 7-in-1 set: these are the three models named on the box, and the step-by-step instruction manual carries the other four builds. The set also includes wheels and a powered screw.
